‘Leeds United alarm bells ringing’ as Sunderland transfer update emerges yet again

Leeds United’s summer transfer window has thrown up a lot of frustration so far.

Daniel Farke already faces a near insurmountable task of keeping Leeds in the Premier League, and will be fully aware that recruitment this summer will play a crucial role in deciding the success that he can find next season.

Unfortunately for him, movement at Elland Road has been slow, with Jaka Bjiol’s arrival the only addition to have raised the ceiling for the Whites after promotion.

Lukas Nmecha and Sebastian Bornauw have both also made the move, raising the floor of the squad, but the latest transfer update will once again spark some concern.

Noah Sadiki development sends clear message to 49ers

Leeds have been linked with a whole host of players this summer, though very few have actually made the move to Elland Road, perhaps as expected

One of those to have been heavily linked was Habib Diarra, who has since been announced as a new addition at Sunderland in a club-record deal.

That deal caused frustration for the Whites, though that quickly turned into an opportunity when they were linked with a move to sign Noah Sadiki.

Diarra thrived in Ligue 1 and could replicate that in the Premier League.

The Congo international was seen as a better option for the Whites, though he is now set to join Diarra at Sunderland, in what can only be seen as a double blow.

Reinildo had also been linked, as was Djordje Petrovic, with that duo also looking as though they are closing in on a move to the Black Cats.

While Leeds may have their reason for not pursuing these deals to the latter stages, and do indeed deny making any official approaches, it certainly isn’t a good look for the 49ers.

Sunderland will be a relegation rival for Leeds

As is the theme with modern-day football, the three promoted teams will always be the favourites to go straight back down, no matter how much ambition they show in the summer.

For Leeds, one of their rivals will be Sunderland, and to see them making serious progress in the transfer window will do little to calm the nerves at Elland Road.
