Leeds United ace Patrick Bamford will be furious at FIFA announcement
Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford was a surprise omission from the FIFA Puskas Award having scored a screamer against Peterborough in the FA Cup in January.
Bamford has had a somewhat troubled time at Elland Road recently with limited game time but his incredible volley against Peterborough in January’s tie seemed award-worthy.
Scoring the second goal in a 3-0 win, Bamford brought the ball down majestically before arrowing a left-footed volley into the far corner of the goal.
However, FIFA seemingly deemed otherwise having not included him in their list of nominations, as revealed on Friday (29 November) for the prestigious Puskas Award and he has every right to be angry at the decision.
Leeds United need Patrick Bamford to return to his best
Bamford’s goal against Peterborough wasn’t a fluke – it was a testament to the level of technical ability that he possesses on his day.
Unfortunately for Leeds at the moment, that day is yet to arrive this season and he has found game time severely limited as a result.
Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph have taken the starting places up top for the Whites with Bamford barely getting a game under Daniel Farke this campaign.
With that said, neither have hit the heights needed for a promotion-chasing team and Darren Bent, among several others, identified that area of the pitch as Leeds’ biggest weakness.

Farke has an abundance of quality at his disposal but is just lacking that natural goalscorer at the top end of the pitch to push them over the line.
Throughout his career, Bamford has demonstrated that he is capable of fulfilling that role but he needs to get back to the performances many know he is capable of.
