Leeds ‘to complete bargain deal’ to re-sign Leif Davis amid Junior Firpo exit

Junior Firpo is yet to commit his future to Leeds United, meaning signing a new left-back is a priority at Elland Road.

Leeds sealed promotion to the Premier League on Easter Monday (21 April), hours after their 6-0 mauling of Stoke City, with Firpo among those on the scoresheet.

The Dominican Republic international has played a key part in the Whites’ road to promotion, bagging four goals and nine assists in 31 Championship appearances.

However, the left-back’s future at Elland Road is in serious doubt, as his contract expires in two months.

Leeds to ditch to re-sign Leif Davis

There is still hope that Leeds and Firpo could reach an agreement over a contract extension, but such a deal is yet to be struck.

That means the former Barcelona ace could be set to end his four-year association with the West Yorkshire outfit ahead of their return to the Premier League.

However, fear not, as another opportunity appears to have opened up for the Peacocks in the shape of former defender Leif Davis.

The left-back joined Ipswich for a meagre sum of £1million in 2022, but is now plying his trade in the Premier League.

Ipswich, though, are placed 18th in the table, and it is only a matter of time before their relegation is confirmed.

The Tractor Boys are, therefore, certain to lose their best players, and while Liam Delap is their top star, Davis is also an attractive asset.

As a forward-thinking full-back, the 25-year-old might be the bargain deal Leeds need if Firpo departs ahead of next season.

Davis to seal remarkable Elland Road return

Davis may only have one goal and three assists to show for his 31 Premier League appearances this season, but his underlying numbers make his quality apparent.

Davis’ record in the Premier League this season.

No defender has created more chances than the Ipswich ace (54) in the League this season, according to FotMob, with only Tottenham’s Pedro Porro matching his tally.

He has also created 12 big chances, registering an xA of 4.18.

At 25, Davis’s best years are still ahead of him, and this might be the right time for a remarkable return to Elland Road.
