Leeds ‘to move for Tanganga now’ after Crystal Palace news

Japhet Tanganga is almost nailed on to leave Millwall this summer amid links to Leeds United.

Following the signing of Lukas Nmecha on a free transfer from Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg, Leeds United have officially started their summer transfer business, with plenty more expected to come.

A whole host of players have been linked with a move to Elland Road, including former Tottenham defender Tanganga, who has garnered interest from several clubs in and around Europe.

The Leeds-linked star is said to be available for as little as £1.2million this window, and the latest update from elsewhere in the Premier League can only be seen as a cause for optimism.

Crystal Palace drop out of Tanganga pursuit

Tanganga initially broke through the academy at Tottenham, before eventually seeking an exit from North London in pursuit of regular first-team football, which is exactly what he found at Millwall.

Not only did he find that regular game time, but he also thrived, being named as Millwall’s Player of the Season for the campaign just passed.

His performances in the Championship have attracted interest from several clubs, including Leeds, and initially it was believed that Crystal Palace also held an interest.

However, according to Richard Cawley via X (16 June), the Eagles are not considering a deal for the Lions’ defender, and that will serve as a boost for the Whites.

Given the fact that Palace qualified for European football, their interest would have immediately set Leeds on the back foot, but instead, the Whites now have a clear route to seal his signing.

Farke needs more defensive options

In order to compete in the Premier League, Leeds will need sufficient depth, and the signing of someone like Tanganga would make far too much sense to ignore.

At worst, you would be getting a top-level Championship defender with a high resale value, and at best, he could make the step up and aid the Whites in their push for survival.

Whether Leeds push further with their interest remains to be seen, but it will certainly be one to keep a close eye on.
