Leeds ‘need to upgrade on Brenden Aaronson’ after shocking stat emerges

Breden Aaronson has been a near ever-present for Leeds United this season.

The American attacking midfielder has featured 37 times in the Championship, starting 35 times with no real alternative for his role in Daniel Farke‘s squad.

The 24-year-old has notched eight goals and two assists in those appearances but the Whites may have to upgrade on the former Union Berlin ace if they are promoted to the Premier League.

Aaronson underwhelms for Leeds United

The Peacocks star cannot be criticised for his work rate but his lack of goal contributions lately is a worrying trend.

Aaronson has notched just one goal and no assists in Leeds’ last 13 league matches, with the strike against Cardiff City his only contribution in that period.

Perhaps even more concerning is the fact this expected assists tally has dropped to just 1.4 from 2.9 in the first 19 matches of the season.

Leeds need to upgrade on Aaronson if they secure promotion

Leeds restored their two-point lead at the summit of the second tier as the midweek results went in their favour as they beat Millwall and Sheffield United and Burnley dropped points putting them in pole position to secure promotion.

If they are promoted, Aaronson cannot be the only number 10 in the squad and he cannot be the starter in the position due to his inconsistency and lack of goals at the highest level.

His last stint in the top-flight with the Elland Road outfit was not exactly inspiring, he notched just one goal and three assists in 36 matches in the 2022/23 season as the club crashed back down to the Championship.

Given the fact that staying in the Premier League seems to be harder than ever with Southampton, Leicester, and Ipswich set to come straight back down after winning promotion last season, the Whites need their attacking players to perform regularly if they are to have any chance of survival.

That means a top-quality addition is necessary, one that can be a difference-maker every week rather than having a good run of form every couple of months like Aaronson does.
