Leeds make pre-January move to sign player Victor Orta ‘moved quickly’ to strike deal for
Daniel Farke is looking to strengthen the forward ranks of his Leeds United squad in the January transfer window.
The Whites are in a brilliant position to avoid Premier League relegation going into the second half of the season, and will want to take full advantage of the opportunity.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored for the sixth consecutive game against Sunderland on Sunday, as Farke’s side drew 1-1 at the Stadium of Light to move seven points clear of the bottom three.
Leeds are now unbeaten in their last five matches, but the West Yorkshire outfit are still working on signings ahead of the January window.
Leeds make move for Ruben Vargas
Leeds have been linked with Sevilla winger Ruben Vargas over the past few weeks, and reports are emerging that he could be available for a bargain price.
Earlier this month, it was believed that the Whites were willing to pay £17.5million for Vargas, but it now appears that the final figure could be significantly less.
Sevilla valued the 27-year-old at £13m in the summer, and are willing to drop their demands as the January transfer window closes in, according to Diario ABC.

It is said that Leeds and other Premier League teams are considering making an offer of around £8.7m to try and tempt the Spanish side into selling Vargas.

Leeds fans will be wary of another Victor Orta nightmare
Back in January, Vargas was signed by former Leeds sporting director Victor Orta, who was in charge of Sevilla’s recruitment at the time.
It’s fair to say that Orta, who is now at Real Valladolid, doesn’t have the best reputation among the Elland Road faithful, leaving the Whites in a dreadful position upon his exit in the summer of 2023.
The 46-year-old Spaniard was full of praise for Vargas when he joined Sevilla almost 12 months ago, adding that the La Liga side “moved quickly” to beat other clubs to his signature.
Speaking about the winger via Sevilla FC, Orta said: “We moved quickly because we knew other teams would show interest. We were confident he would add value, as he is a proven player with experience.”

Given Orta’s recruitment record in West Yorkshire, Leeds fans will be wary of signing a player that he has spoken so highly of.
Consistently making it about himself and stepping way over the line with fans, his excitement around players can often be blinded.
However, if the current regime at Elland Road feels that he is the right fit for Farke’s squad, then any doubts will likely be quashed.
