Leeds fans will love what’s now emerged about Calvert-Lewin and Jose Mourinho
Dominic Calvert-Lewin joined Leeds United as a free agent following his exit from Everton early in the summer.
Objectively, he is far from the piece of business the 49ers have conducted so far this summer, with that title currently looking like it is Anton Stach’s to lose.
However, the former Evertonian’s arrival is easily the most controversial, with Leeds supporters having reasonable doubts when considering Calvert-Lewin’s form and injury record.
Others have raised their concerns on social media about how the former England international is simply joining the Elland Road outfit for a payday after no one else wanted him; however, the reports that he turned down Fenerbache to join Leeds suggest he deserves a chance from the fanbase.

Calvert-Lewin makes his intentions clear after signing for Leeds
Robin Koch was just one of many to leave Leeds on bad terms following the club’s relegation from the Premier League back in 2023, but this may not be the case with Calvert-Lewin if the Whites do go down.
With the striker opting to turn down the opportunity to play in European competition, for more money under a legendary manager in Jose Mourinho, Leeds fans cannot question the 28-year-old’s desire to be at Leeds.
In his interview with Leeds cult hero Jermaine Beckford, Calvert-Lewin spoke about his excitement to play for Leeds in the Premier League.
- Calvert-Lewin’s best goalscoring season for Everton came in 2020/21
- He scored 16 Premier League goals in that campaign
“Really, really excited, just walking in today like a first day at school, you know, I feel like a kid again, just starting somewhere new and just can’t wait to play and represent the football club.
“It’s a massive football club with a massive fanbase, and I’ve played at Elland Road before, and I just remember thinking how loud the fans were and how good the fans were,” Calvert-Lewin said.
The towering forward’s first interview seemingly won over many fans who were initially sceptical about the deal.
Calvert-Lewin’s loyalty tested in the event of relegation
As much as supporters won’t like to admit it, there is a large probability that Leeds will be relegated in the upcoming season.
If that is, unfortunately, the case, we will see just how committed Calvert-Lewin is to the Whites.
One would assume that the 49ers would not allow any loan clauses in any of the new signings’ contracts, considering the burden that was placed upon the club the last time they fell from the top flight in 2023.
If Calvert-Lewin opts to stay, he could eventually turn into a cult hero at Leeds, but if the striker forces a move out, the sceptics will be proven correct about his move to West Yorkshire.
