Leeds fans will love what Xabi Alonso has already said about Gonzalo Garcia
Leeds-linked Gonzalo Garcia has previously received high praise from Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso.
Leeds are in need on a new striker in January if they are to stand any chance of beating the drop.
One player who has been linked is Garcia, who has recently come through Real Madrid’s academy.
The striker has made numerous appearances for the Spanish giants and even scored numerous goals in the Club World Cup in the summer.
Now, as Leeds prepare to battle for Garcia’s signature, fans may be excited about Alonso’s previous praise for the attacker.

Xabi Alonso: Gonzalo Garcia has similarities to Raul
The potential signing of the Real Madrid star has already proved exciting to many of the Elland Road faithful.
Last season, he was prolific for Real Madrid’s B team in the 2024-25 campaign, as he netted 25 goals in 36 games.
This resulted in his big breakthrough in the Club World Cup, where Garcia outperformed Haaland’s xG at the tournament.
Upon scoring in Real Madrid’s 3-0 win over Red Bull Salzburg during the competition, Alonso was quick to heap praise on the striker, comparing him to the legend, Raul.
He told GOAL on 27 June: “I had no doubts about Gonzalo. What he’s doing isn’t a surprise. He’s done it many times at Castilla. At least for him.
“He’s the typical number nine, who knows how to wait for his opportunity, who moves well. I’m very happy for him. He has Raul qualities in his movements. There are no decisions regarding the start of next season.”
These quotes will no doubt excite plenty of Leeds fans who have been calling out for a proper number nine to come in all season.
If these performances can be replicated, there is no reason why the attacker can’t be the catalyst to lead the West Yorkshire club to survival.
How much could Garcia cost Leeds?
Ahead of the transfer window opening, Aston Villa have also been linked with Garcia.
A £17.5million bid is said to be readied for the striker by the Birmingham outfit, but it is unknown if this will be accepted.
With Garcia under contract until 2030, Madrid will be under no pressure to sell the upcoming talent.
Now, it may depend on whether Leeds are willing to put their money where their mouth is and submit an acceptable bid to the Spanish giants for the attacker.
