Leeds fans react ahead of Salford clash
Leeds are facing a potential banana skin in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night but the fans are more desperate than usual to avoid slipping on it.
There’s extra juice in the game against Salford… Marcelo Bielsa recognised it in his pre-match press conference, Sky Sports noticed it by selecting it for their live game and the fans certainly know it.
The reason is the Class of ’92 connection and the deep-seated rivalry between Leeds and Man United when both were still in the Premier League.
Salford is part-owned by Gary Neville, Phil Neville, Paul Scholes, David Beckham, Ryan Giggs and Nicky Butt. They all own 10% of the club while Valencia chairman Peter Lim holds the other 40%.
The club has been promoted four times since 2014 and now find themselves in League 2. It’s fair to say that this will be the biggest game in their history.
It’s not the biggest game for Leeds but it’s one their fans are desperate to win, with some pointing out that Salford will be supported by plenty of Man United fans on Tuesday night.
Another fan said that he hoped Bielsa wouldn’t make too many changes as he said Leeds “can’t be losing to Salford tonight will never live it down”.
One Leeds fan downplayed Salford’s success saying it was, “A remarkable story where a non-league team is taken over by 6 ex-mufc millionaires, and a billionaire that also owns Valencia, and somehow manage to get promoted to league 2.”
There’s plenty of extra bite in the game and we hope all the clashes are on the pitch.
