Leeds can punish Tottenham by bringing back Marcelo Bielsa trait Thomas Frank loved

Leeds take on a Tottenham side that has found a new lease of life under Thomas Frank this Saturday.

The former Brentford boss took over at Spurs this summer and has got his team playing a more effective brand of football.

Tottenham are favourites to beat Leeds as they sit fourth in the Premier League, but they are still far from invincible.

The likes of Bodo/Glimt, Wolves and Brighton have all picked up positive results against them in recent weeks, and they have done so using a brand of football that Thomas Frank once praised Leeds for using.

Thomas Frank once praised Leeds for “controlled chaos”

When Frank was preparing his Brentford team for a trip to Elland Road in December 2021, he praised Marcelo Bielsa’s style of “controlled chaos” that was securing great results at the time.

Frank praised Leeds’ “intensity” and “the way they press” before that game, and that proved to be their key strength as they secured a 2-2 draw with a stoppage-time goal from Patrick Bamford.

The chaos of Bielsa ultimately proved to be Leeds’ undoing defensively, but they could certainly benefit from adding extra intensity to their game against Tottenham.

When Leeds kick off against Tottenham, the weather conditions look set to be testing. Spurs have fallen behind in three of their last four games and have a horrible record ahead of international breaks.

Everything suggests that Leeds can experience some joy if they bring the intensity to Tottenham from the first minute.

Leeds have the players to hurt Tottenham

Daniel Farke has been keen to downplay Leeds’ bright start to the Premier League season, regularly labelling his side as ‘a promoted team’.

However, he will need his players to believe in their ability to punish teams like Tottenham if they are to reach their full potential.

Tottenham have dangerous players all over the pitch, but Leeds have some great attacking outlets as well.

Spurs have started slowly in recent games. If Leeds can gain the attacking impetus early in this game, they’ll have a great chance of picking up a positive result. They must play like a team that knows they can cause Tottenham problems.
