Karl Darlow to finally realise dream away from Leeds United in England vs Wales

Karl Darlow has put in some impressive performances at Leeds United in the absence of Lucas Perri.

The 35-year-old became a key player for Daniel Farke towards the end of last season, with Illan Meslier sidelined at Elland Road after making some major errors.

In the summer, the Whites signed the Brazilian shot-stopper from Olympique Lyon, and he started the first three matches before picking up a knock.

With Perri injured at Elland Road, the German manager has relied on Darlow in the last four Premier League matches, with the West Yorkshire outfit putting in some decent performances.

Karl Darlow to finally play at Wembley away from Leeds United

Darlow could possibly be in line to start for Wales against England in a friendly at Wembley on 9 October.

The veteran shot-stopper has been denied the opportunity to play under the famous arch twice in his career previously, but looks set to do it away from Elland Road.

During the shot-stopper’s time at Newport, he was unable to play in the FA Trophy final at the Cathedral of Football due to red tape issues, as the paperwork needed wasn’t submitted in time.

Then, in 2023, when Newcastle United reached the Carabao Cup final, which they lost to Manchester United, Darlow was on loan at Hull City and couldn’t be recalled despite Nick Pope’s suspension.

Speaking to the media ahead of the fixture at Wembley, the goalkeeper said: “It’s my first experience if I start, which is something I would relish. It’s been a long time coming.”

“I’ve been unfortunate, so it would be nice to finally tick it off the bucket list.”

Karl Darlow up against it as England record vs Wales dominant

Darlow has certainly made a case to compete with Perri at Elland Road, and it will be interesting to see who starts once the Brazilian national is back from his fitness issue.

For now, the Welshman will surely cherish the minutes he’s being afforded, and will look to make history with his nation at Wembley.

England have a dominant record against Wales, winning the last seven matches against them, with the Dragons’ only victory in the previous 11 meetings coming on 1 May 1984.

Farke will hope Darlow returns to Leeds without any knocks, as the German manager looks to get back to winning ways after the international break.
