Junior Firpo ‘packing his bags’ amid latest Leeds United transfer news
Junior Firpo is now surely packing his bags at Leeds United after rumours have surfaced from Spain linking him with a Real Betis switch this transfer window.
The left-back has been sidelined for the last few weeks due to injury but prior to his forced absence, he was one of Daniel Farke’s key men.
So far, he’s contributed to four goals across all competitions and, when fit, has more or less cemented his place in the Whites’ starting XI.
However, with his contract at Elland Road set to expire at the end of the 2024/25 season, rumours have started to swirl around where his future may lie with Spanish newspaper ABC Sevilla reporting via its print edition (22 January) that the left-back is back on the shortlist of the La Liga outfit before the winter window slams shut.
The fact the Dominican Republic international started his career with Betis likely also sways the 28-year-old towards making a return at some point, especially since he can move away from Leeds for free.
Junior Firpo’s Leeds United exit now seems imminent
Although this season the left-back is a key member of Farke’s squad, it feels like a step-up to the Premier League could be too much for the defender to handle.
His last stint in the top flight with the West Yorkshire outfit was far from ideal with the defender often being at the centre of their problems.
Before the 2024/25 season even kicked off, there was talk about the former Barcelona man being replaced with the likes of Max Wober being mooted to start over him.

However, now that Betis have stepped up their chase for Firpo once again, it feels like his exit is more imminent than ever, especially since he’d be able to depart Elland Road for free at the end of the campaign.
Only time will tell what both parties choose to do but at the moment, it feels like he has one foot out of the exit door.
