Junior Firpo in laughable 1/10 shocker – Leeds United player ratings v Manchester City

Leeds United were completely obliterated on Tuesday night as Marcelo Bielsa’s injury-hit squad lost 7-0 at the hands of Manchester City at the Etihad.

Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Kevin De Bruyne (x2), Riyad Mahrez, John Stones and Nathan Ake were all on the scoresheet in what was a night to forget for Leeds fans.

It was a rotten performance by the Whites and hardly any good words can be said about Bielsa’s men.

And here, MOT Leeds News has rated the players out of 10 in what was a despicable performance:

Illan Meslier – 3

Woeful. Meslier was all over the place for City’s first three goals and really should have done a lot better. We’re fearing the young Frenchman might be finding it harder without an experienced goalkeeper training alongside him at Thorp Arch.

Jamie Shackleton – 5

Clearly out of his depth and clearly not someone who Leeds can rely on in big matches like this. Shackleton went off injured in the first half to add to the growing list of injuries at Elland Road.

Luke Ayling – 2

Ayling is a right-back. He might get away with playing at centre-back against some teams but he lacked defensive discipline against Man City and really failed to show any kind of good positioning. Get Charlie Cresswell in alongside Diego Llorente.

Diego Llorente – 3

Llorente was all over the place yet again as the Spain international’s poor run of form this season continued. We needed to rely on Llorente tonight – but that was impossible with how badly he defended.

Junior Firpo – 1

Did Victor Orta keep the receipt for this guy? Firpo was atrocious and is doing the square root of nothing to show that signing him was a good idea. He didn’t bother marking Jack Grealish when he scored City’s second goal and was booked, meaning he’ll be suspended against Arsenal this weekend. Firpo was lucky to have not been booked again before being substituted.

Leeds United

Stuart Dallas – 3

Dallas will know that he fluffed his lines when it came to Foden’s opening goal but came closest to scoring for Leeds when he struck the post. Dallas has to do better than that.

Adam Forshaw – 4

Forshaw had an almost impossible task against Man City. Without Kalvin Phillips, he had to spend most of the game alongside Mateusz Klich, trying to fend off the likes of Foden, Bernardo Silva, Ilkay Gundogan and Grealish.

Raphinha – 2

That may have been Raphinha’s worst performance in a Leeds shirt. Woeful in possession and did nothing to get back and help the right-back.

Tyler Roberts – 2

Roberts’ slack play led to Foden’s opener and we don’t remember seeing him after that.

Jack Harrison – 5

It feels weird to praise someone after that performance but Harrison was probably Leeds’ best player because he at least offered a little bit of something going forward. He wasn’t any good but he did better than anyone else for Leeds.

Daniel James – 2

There wasn’t any point in James turning up.

Substitutes:

Mateusz Klich (on for Shackleton, 38′) – 3

Terrible marking for Ake’s goal but why was he told to mark the centre-back in the first place?

Joe Gelhardt (on for James, 46′) – 4

Cody Drameh (on for Firpo, 73) – 3
