Junior Firpo ‘has played final Leeds United game’ after Daniel Farke news

Junior Firpo may have played his final Leeds United game as Daniel Farke has provided an injury update at Elland Road.

The Dominican Republic international has been a key player for the Whites as they have won automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Farke has relied on Firpo at left-back, but the defender’s future is uncertain at the West Yorkshire outfit, with his contract expiring at the end of the campaign.

The German manager has revealed that the former Barcelona star has picked up an injury, and he could potentially be unavailable for the trip to Home Park on Saturday (3 May).

Leeds United could be without Firpo v Plymouth due to hamstring injury

Firpo has a slight hamstring issue as the Whites face Plymouth in their final Championship game of the season, Farke shared.

The German manager revealed that the left-back picked up a knock as Bristol City lost 4-0 at Elland Road on 28 April.

Farke revealed that the West Yorkshire outfit will try to bring the 28-year-old defender back into team training before travelling to Home Park, but it’ll be a tight call.

Speaking to the media on X (1 May), the 48-year-old head coach said: “Firpo also had some light hamstring problems after the last game, so he won’t be able to train today. It’s also a tight call. We’ll try everything. Also like to bring him to the training pitch tomorrow so he can travel with us and be available.”

Farke deserves Premier League chance at Elland Road.

Farke’s sacking at Elland Road would arguably be a disgraceful decision from the Whites after what he’s been able to achieve this season.

While the German manager boasted one of the best squads in the Championship, he had to contend with several fitness issues.

The 48-year-old head coach has shown that he’s capable of bringing out the best in players many didn’t have high expectations for, such as Ao Tanaka and Joe Rothwell.

Leeds should sign the Bournemouth loanee in the summer transfer window for his contributions to the team this season.

There were also doubts about the West Yorkshire outfit’s goalscoring situation before the start of the current campaign, but they’ve scored the most in the league.

The Whites are miles ahead of other outfits in the Championship, finding the back of the net 93 times, with Norwich City second with 67 goals.

Joel Piroe has been handed the responsibility of leading the line this season, leading the goalscoring chart in the league.

The Peacocks will undoubtedly need a competitive squad as they return to the top flight after a two-year absence, and Firpo should be handed a new deal as he has the quality to contribute at Elland Road.
