Joshua Zirkzee’s impressive attribute can make Leeds United star Dominic Calvert-Lewin even better
A new striker is on Daniel Farke’s agenda at Leeds United ahead of the January transfer window, and one of those is Joshua Zirkzee.
Leeds have approached Man United to sign Zirkzee, seeing the 24-year-old as someone who can bolster their forward options.
Zirkzee has dropped down the pecking order at Old Trafford following Benjamin Sesko’s arrival, while finding the net just eight times in 59 appearances since joining from Bologna in 2024.
Farke wants to replenish his forward line in January as Leeds have often struggled to score goals in the Premier League. So, whilst the Dutchman won’t necessarily improve their fortunes in that regard, he can offer a useful trait in their fight against relegation.

Joshua Zirkzee can link up well with Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Finishing has seriously let down Zirkzee following his switch to England, with United relying on their other forward players to do the business.
On the flip side, the Leeds target has impressed with his link-up play, utilising his 6′ 4″ frame to hold up the ball and connect with his teammates.
It suggests that Zirkzee could create a potentially fruitful partnership with Dominic Calvert-Lewin at Elland Road, perhaps sacrificing his own game to supercharge the Englishman.
Calvert-Lewin has been in red-hot form for Leeds, scoring in each of his four games, and having Zirkzee alongside him would surely increase his goal-getting talents.
As highlighted by FBref, the Man United frontman ranks in the top 11 per cent of strikers across Europe for passes attempted per 90, while placing in the top 10 per cent for progressive passes.
Ian Wright has praised Zirkzee’s link-up play
Currently, Calvert-Lewin’s strike partner choices at Leeds are Lukas Nmecha and Noah Okafor.
Zirkzee is more than capable of challenging the duo for a place in the starting lineup, and former Arsenal forward Ian Wright would back up that claim.
Speaking after his goal in United’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace in November, Wright praised Zirkzee’s impressive link-up play.
“One player I was particularly impressed with was Zirkzee,” Wright said on Premier League Productions ‘The Weekend Wrap’.
“I know he scored, but his link-up play, the way he played in the game, you could see it was very cohesive, passing the ball around, it was very nice. They showed a lot of character and will have to build on that.”
