Joel Piroe set for Leeds redemption as Daniel Farke shares Calvert-Lewin update

Joel Piroe could be in line to start for Leeds United when they face Nottingham Forest.

Leeds face Nottingham Forest at the City Ground this weekend, knowing just how important it will be to return home with three points.

In the next few weeks, the Whites face several of the top six, with clashes against Liverpool, Chelsea and Sunderland all approaching.

The Whites need to start on the front foot against Sean Dyche’s side, and after the latest news on Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Piroe could be tasked with that.

Calvert-Lewin is a doubt for Leeds vs Nottingham Forest

Calvert-Lewin has struggled this season, but Farke has persisted with the Englishman to lead the line, despite having scored just one goal.

That was back in September, when Leeds came from behind to secure a 3-1 win away to Wolves.

However, the Englishman appears highly unlikely to lead the line this weekend, with Farke revealing in his latest press conference that he is a doubt.

He said: “It’s an abductor injury, so we will make a late call. He’s doing his rehab, and it’s progressing well, but he’s not in team training yet.

“We won’t take any risks.”

Given the role he played in their promotion last season, Piroe is more than likely next in line for a starting role, and Farke has already heaped praise on the Dutchman earlier this season.

Joel Piroe has a ‘world class’ attribute – Daniel Farke

Piroe scored 19 and assisted seven for Leeds last season, having registered 17 goal contributions for the Whites in the previous campaign.

Had it not been for his goals, the likelihood is that Leeds would still be in the Championship.

He has flaws in his game, and ultimately, that is why Leeds needed to sign a striker in the summer, but that didn’t stop Farke from highlighting his strengths.

Back in October, Farke said: “For me, he’s the best finisher I’ve ever worked with, and there’s been some good finishers.

If you want to have a player with the ball in front of his feet 20 yards out, then I would always go for Joel Piroe because he’s an unbelievable finisher and in these terms, really world class.”

Given the importance of the game ahead, Piroe will need to have his shooting boots on, not only to secure all three points for his side but also to stake a claim for his place in the starting 11 going forward.
