Joel Piroe sees exit route shut down as 49ers presented with Leeds dilemma

Joel Piroe will surely dominate the headlines at Leeds United going into the final days of the winter transfer window.

The pursuit of Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen may be back on at Elland Road, with doubts raised over his move to Crystal Palace after an initial agreement.

Ipswich Town were the latest team to show an interest in Piroe, but it seems like the forward is waiting for the right opportunity to leave the Whites.

With uncertainty around the 26-year-old’s future, it will be interesting to see how his situation will develop at the West Yorkshire outfit before the 2 February deadline.

FC Twente don’t want new striker as Rangers want last-ditch Joel Piroe move from Leeds United

Rangers have entered the race to sign Piroe on loan until the end of the season, according to Florian Plettenberg.

The Sky Sports journalist claimed on 29 January that the Suriname international is one of the leading candidates for the Scottish side.

This comes after the centre-forward saw a potential move to FC Twente from Elland Road be seemingly dismissed, with the Dutch club not looking to sign a striker in the coming days.

Oost Sport reporter Tijmen van Wissing revealed on 28 January that the Eredivisie outfit have no plans to bolster their attack right now.

Twente were among the teams linked with Piroe, but it doesn’t look like they intend to proceed with a deal midway through the season.

With Rangers now expressing interest, 49ers Enterprises will face a significant dilemma as they decide whether a move to Ibrox, where the American owners hold shares, would be best for the West Yorkshire outfit financially.

Daniel Farke has another transfer priority at Elland Road after what’s been said

Jaka Bijol and Lukas Nmecha are on the sidelines at Elland Road, evidently leaving the Whites with a couple of priorities before the 2 February deadline.

While Noah Okafor and Brenden Aaronson have shown that they can play alongside Dominic Calvert-Lewin up front, Leeds should be looking to address their apparent lack of depth at centre-back.

James Justin has been deployed in a back three in recent matches due to the unavailability of Bijol and Sebastiaan Bornauw.

Joe Rodon has also had his fitness issues in the current campaign, and the addition of a quality defender will undoubtedly relieve some of Farke’s concerns if he faces a fitness crisis at centre-back before the end of the season.
