Joel Piroe ‘robbed at Leeds United’ after official EFL announcement
Leeds United have had an excellent season, securing promotion back to the Premier League with time to spare.
Daniel Farke has formed a strong squad that has been in top form throughout the campaign, helping achieve the aims set out at Elland Road this term.
Although the German boss has had to make some changes at times, he has generally had a strong spine of the squad which he has built around and it has paid off.

Championship Team of the Year named
With two games left to play, Leeds can still secure the top spot and go up to the Premier League as champions.
It won’t be the easiest of games against Bristol City on Monday (28 April), a side that are in their own push eyeing up a play-off spot.
Nevertheless, the Whites are in good form and will be eager to claim first place in the table, sending a message to the Premier League before their arrival.
As the season begins to come to a close, rewards are starting to be given out and the EFL announced the Championship Team of the Season on Sunday (27 April).
Leeds were represented by three players in Dan James, Ao Tanaka and Jayden Bogle.
However, despite being the top scorer in the league, Joel Piroe was snubbed with Norwich City’s Josh Sargent getting the nod in that position instead, with teammate Borja Sainz also included.
Piroe deserved Championship place
At the start of the season, Farke was uncertain over whether his best starting line-up involved Piroe or Mateo Joseph which both forwards struggling to pull up any trees.
However, Piroe solidified his spot in the side and has gone on to make 44 appearances across the campaign, scoring 19 goals along the way, making him the top goal scorer in the league.
Although being the top goal scorer doesn’t automatically translate to being the best player, Sargent is only fourth on the list and their numbers are not exactly a tight race.
Player | Goals | Assists |
Piroe | 19 | 6 |
Sargent | 15 | 5 |
Piroe has scored four more goals this term and also contributed one more assist. The Leeds striker has also racked up a better minutes per goal tally and has surely been robbed of his place in the squad.
The 25-year-old will know just how well he has done this season and having promotion on his CV will outweigh being in the team of the season but sitting 14th in the Championship table.
Nevertheless, you can’t help but feel as though Piroe has been overlooked as the league has attempted to shoehorn in other players, despite having weaker seasons.
