Joel Piroe exit to be accelerated at Leeds amid £26m transfer update

Joel Piroe’s time at Leeds could be coming to an end in January.

Despite Leeds’ attacking concerns in the Premier League this season, Piroe has very rarely been afforded the chance to rectify them.

The Dutchman, after scoring 19 times for the Whites in the previous campaign, has played just 180 minutes of football this season.

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha both seemingly ahead of him in the pecking order at Elland Road, it will spark queries as to where his future lies, and the latest transfer update will only amplify that.

Leeds want to sign Troy Parrott in January

Troy Parrott scored a hat-trick for Ireland against Hungary on Sunday, which is more goals than Leeds’ strikers have managed combined this season.

Seemingly based on his recent form, Leeds have been linked with a move to sign Parrott in the January transfer window.

According to Voetbal Nieuws, AZ Alkmaar wanted £26million for the Irishman in the summer, though his impressive campaign so far is likely to have seen those demands increase.

The 23-year-old has scored 13 goals in 14 appearances for the Dutch side in all competitions this season, and if a move were to materialise, it would certainly be with a view to him being the starting striker.

If so, that would demote Piroe to fourth choice at Elland Road, making a sale not only likely, but potentially needed to balance the PSR books.

Troy Parrott is a signficant upgrade on Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Calvert-Lewin has struggled massively since he joined Leeds in the summer, having managed to score just once so far this season.

Leeds may not have always played to his strengths, though that does not excuse his lack of clinical ability in front of goal, which has proved costly on far too many occasions.

Parrott, on the other hand, has been one of the most clinical finishers in Europe this season, with six league goals from 5.56 xG.

Parrott has outperformed Calvert-Lewin in every meaningful attacking attribute, though it is his finishing ability thatLeeds need the most.

Based on his form this season, there will be a lot of interest, but if Leeds are serious about staying in the Premier League, they need to find a way to make it happen.
