Joel Piroe destined for Championship exit after continuation of Leeds snub

Joel Piroe could be one of several players on his way out of Leeds next month.

Leeds will be looking to make the most of the January window, with plenty of business to be done to keep their heads above water in the Premier League.

Two or three arrivals are possible, with other focus likely to be on securing moves for some of the fringe players at Elland Road.

Having barely been afforded a chance under Daniel Farke this season, Piroe fits the bill, and a loan exit in January may be best for all parties.

Piroe exit depends on one thing at Leeds

Leeds’ success as of late has come with a back five, but also a front two.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been sensational in December, with Noah Okafor his usual strike partner at Elland Road.

Lukas Nmecha is seemingly next in line, leaving Piroe as the fourth choice, though his exit is only likely to be sanctioned if the Whites can bring another forward in.

If that were to happen, Piroe would be a tidy pickup for most Championship sides, though it’s likely to only be a loan deal if he were to leave.

Leeds, providing they can avoid relegation, will want to do plenty of business in the summer, and selling Piroe off the back of an impressive six months in the Championship would maximise his potential value.

Given how impressive he was last season, the Dutchman will not want to spend the next six months on Leeds’ bench, nor will the Whites want to see his value plummet as a result of a lack of gametime.

Which strikers have Leeds been linked with?

Artem Dovbyk was linked with an Elland Road switch in the summer, and while he looks set to leave Roma, it remains to be seen if the Whites are still interested.

However, one forward they have expressed an interest in is Franculino Dju, who has been on fire for FC Midtjylland.

The 21-year-old has 24 goal contributions in 30 appearances for the Danish outfit so far this season, including four in the Europa League, but an injury sustained in December will rule him out until March.

If Leeds were to push forward with that interest, it would be a risk, though it may be one that is more than worth taking in the long run.
