Joe Rothwell can quickly become new star after recent Leeds United developments

With Daniel Farke needing a saviour amid an Elland Road injury crisis, Joe Rothwell has stepped up and given Leeds United exactly that.

The German manager lost both Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev recently, who will be out until at least the New Year at Elland Road.

Leeds fans were sweating after the crushing news, but Rothwell, alongside Ao Tanaka, has turned on the style to make that a distant memory.

The Englishman has started the last two Championship fixtures, with his best coming in the 2-0 victory against Sheffield United on 18 October.

The 29-year-old was everywhere against the Blades and made it into the Sky Bet Championship Team of the Week ahead of the Watford clash on 22 October at Elland Road.

Joe Rothwell coming up trumps for Leeds United

Rothwell made the move to LS11 on loan from Bournemouth, looking for more consistent game time after struggling at Southampton last season.

It started the same for the former Blackburn playmaker, warming the bench and waiting for limited minutes.

However, with Ampadu and Gruev on the sidelines, the Englishman has been given the opportunity to prove himself, and the midfielder has taken it with both hands.

Against Chris Wilder’s team, the 29-year-old had 92 per cent passing accuracy, completed all of his seven long passes, made three interceptions and provided an assist, as per FotMob.

It was a perfect performance from Rothwell, and now expectations will be sky-high in West Yorkshire ahead of yet another crucial potential three points in the Championship.

Can he be that next star? It certainly looks like it.
