Joe Rodon holds key to Brennan Johnson transfer after Leeds United developments

Leeds United want to sign Brennan Johnson in January.

With the January transfer window less than two weeks away, Leeds will already have plans in place with a view to bolstering their squad.

Daniel Farke has done a good job of steering the Whites somewhat away from the bottom three for now, but their ability to continue that progress will hinge on the business they can do in the market.

With that in mind, Leeds will have to use everything they can to their advantage to seal new arrivals, and Joe Rodon will have a part to play.

Rodon could seal transfer for Johnson

MOT Leeds News revealed on Thursday that Leeds are keen on signing Johnson from Tottenham.

Spurs are said to be open to selling the Wales international, having fallen massively out of favour since the arrival of Thomas Frank as manager.

That is where Rodon comes in, having featured regularly for Wales alongside Johnson over the last few years, as well as Dan James.

However, the Whites defender also had some time with his international teammate at Tottenham before he made the move to Leeds in 2024.

Johnson would be a good signing for Farke’s side, but with several other clubs in the mix for his signature, it remains to be seen how hard Leeds push for a deal.

Who would Johnson replace at Leeds?

Noah Okafor has shown his quality at times, but a lack of consistency has often sparked debate over his effectiveness in the Premier League.

Nevertheless, it’s highly unlikely that Leeds would look to replace him this early.

With that said, the right flank is where Leeds could certainly do with an upgrade, with James yet to prove his worth in the Premier League, and Willy Gnonto’s future unknown.

Johnson has featured in that position 117 times throughout his career, with 53 goal contributions in that period.

If a deal were to materialise, that would undoubtedly be his position, and it would be a major upgrade in quality in the forward areas for the Whites.
