Joe Gelhardt shows he still has future at Leeds after what he did at Hull City

There’s a lot of excitement surrounding Leeds’ attack after their dominant performance at Molineux last weekend.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Anton Stach and Noah Okafor all scored their first goals as Leeds beat Wolves 3-1.

Calvert-Lewin has been given a lot of hype, with some pundits suggesting he’s showing signs of reaching his peak form.

However, Leeds have another striker on their books who is having a fantastic season.

Joe Gelhardt, currently on a season-long loan at Hull City, is quickly making a name for himself in the Championship.

Joe Gelhardt wins Hull City Player of the Month award

Gelhardt impressed on loan at the MKM Stadium last season, scoring five goals in 23 appearances.

For a while, Gelhardt was linked with a permanent transfer to Hull, but he was eventually loaned out for the season instead.

This might be due to Hull’s well-documented financial problems rather than Leeds wanting to keep hold of the striker.

Either way, they might be pleased he’s still on their books now. Gelhardt has been fantastic for Hull this season, and recently picked up their Player of the Month award for August.

The 23-year-old registered two goals and one assist for Hull in August, and has established himself as one of the first names on their teamsheet.

Against Wolves, he:

There are few strikers in the Premier League who could have scored that header against Wolves, and Leeds certainly don’t have anyone else who can match Calvert-Lewin’s record in the top division.

As such, there’s a general feeling that Leeds’ season could hinge on the former Everton man remaining fit.

His injury record could also have a direct impact on whether Gelhardt is considered surplus to requirements at Leeds next summer.
