Jesse Marsch could come back to haunt Leeds United as Leicester City hold talks over vacant manager’s role

Former Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch has held talks with Leicester over becoming their new manager, according to The Athletic (7 April).

The American coach was sacked by Leeds back in February after leading them into a relegation battle, with Javi Gracia eventually replacing him and winning three of his first seven in charge.

Marsch only managed to win four of his 20 Premier League games this season before he was sacked, but that hasn’t stopped him attracting the attention of some of the Whites’ relegation rivals.

There was talk immediately after he was sacked that he could take over at Southampton following the departure of Nathan Jones, with terms agreed until a late twist saw the deal collapse.

But now he has held talks with the Foxes, who sacked Brendan Rodgers last week after they fell into the relegation zone themselves.

While Leeds fans weren’t exactly sad to see the back of Marsch in February, there were certainly some things to praise him for.

He had an unrivalled passion for the game and constantly wanted to play attacking football with high intensity and great energy. The performances weren’t all bad at Elland Road either, but the lack of a killer instinct in front of goal ultimately cost him his job.

But while he may feel hard done by at the fact Leeds let him go just a week after the January transfer window closed, he may now have the chance to send them to the Championship.

Leeds United

As it stands Leeds are in 13th place, two points above the relegation zone with nine games to play this season.

However, one of those games on 25 April will see the Foxes come to Elland Road to face Leeds in what could be a relegation six-pointer with just a handful of games remaining.

If Marsch is to take the job at Leicester and bring his new side to his old stomping ground and get a result, depending on how other results go between now and then he could play a very big part in sending Leeds crashing back to the Championship.

It’s yet another storyline in what has been a crazy Premier League season, and it’s certainly one to watch should Marsch ink a deal with Leicester in the coming days or weeks.

In other Leeds news, a major boost for the Whites as four Crystal Palace players are ruled out of the weekend clash between the sides.
