Jean-Philippe Mateta to unlock Leeds United transfer after latest exit news

Leeds’ ability to sign one of their targets may hinge on the future of Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Leeds are on course for survival this season, and their latest 1-0 win over Fulham at Elland Road took them one step closer to achieving that goal.

However, Daniel Farke is still eyeing more reinforcements to boost their chances of staying in the Premier League, with the arrival of another striker certainly on the cards.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been on fire this season, but the Whites need someone to not only take the pressure off him to get the goals but also to complement his style of play.

With that said, if they are to do that, it may hinge on what happens at Crystal Palace over the next two weeks.

Crystal Palace crisis could impact Leeds United plans

Leeds have been linked with a move to sign Jorgen Strand Larsen over the last week, with the Wolves forward potentially on the move this month.

Wolves look destined for the drop back into the Championship, with the Norwegian international almost certainly prepared for a new adventure should the chance present itself.

However, the difficulty for Leeds to get a deal done is not only with PSR, but also the downfall of Crystal Palace.

Marc Guehi looks set to leave for Man City, while Mateta has also been linked heavily with an exit from Selhurst Park, with Juventus interested.

Palace have also identified Larsen as a target, and if Mateta is to leave this month, they will no doubt go all out to land the Norwegian, despite his lack of form this season.

For Leeds, their best bet for landing the signing of Larsen may be to hope that Mateta remains at Selhurst Park for the remainder of the campaign.

Jorgen Strand Larsen arrival would spell the end for one Leeds star

Goals haven’t been an issue of late for Leeds, with Calvert-Lewin finding the net regularly.

However, take him out of the equation, and the Whites don’t have a regular goalscorer.

Joel Piroe has already been linked with an exit from Leeds, and while sources state that he is unlikely to leave this month, that would almost certainly change if Larsen arrived.

The Dutchman would become the fourth choice at Elland Road, having already seen so little gametime under Farke.

However, with two weeks left of the window, it remains to be seen what business Leeds can or can’t do.
