ITV make embarrassing Andrea Radrizzani blunder in Leeds United win

Sam Matterface did ITV’s bid for more EFL coverage no favours by mixing up Largie Ramazani with former Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani.

ITV Football posted a video on X on 19 January showing United’s final goal in their 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday, which saw Ramazani’s volley from a corner turned in by Ao Tanaka’s flick.

Ramazani, however, was mixed up with the Whites’ former owner Radrizzani – whose name is far less popular at Elland Road than the Belgian’s nowadays – in a woeful blunder from Matterface.

Matterface said: “Joseph heads it back… Radrizzani and a lovely touch from Tanaka makes it 3-0.”

Andrea Radrizzani blunder at Leeds United

While Radrizzani is the chairman who finally oversaw the Whites’ return to the Premier League in 2020, he’s also seen as one of the major culprits behind them being back in the second tier.

The Italian’s name was indeed a popular one in LS11 for much of his tenure – particularly between 2018 and 2021 – but his inability to take the Whites to the next level was the start of their ultimate downfall.

Had Radrizzani either backed Marcelo Bielsa to the hilt ahead of Leeds’ second season back in the top flight or sold up to 49ers Enterprises much earlier than in 2023, who knows where United would be now?

Given he was only signed from Almeria late in last summer’s transfer window after the enforced sales of Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter, Ramazani is part of a completely separate era in LS11.

However, had Radrizzani made better decisions during his time in charge of the Peacocks, the Belgian winger who sealed the win against Wednesday may never have pitched up at Elland Road.
