Isaac Schmidt to get first Leeds United start v Burnley after Junior Firpo developments
Isaac Schmidt could get his first Leeds United start against Burnley as Junior Firpo will likely have limited training before Saturday 14 September.
The defender is currently representing the Dominican Republic on international duty and is set to play his next game for his country on Tuesday 10 September.
Although the game may seem like quite a distance away, as the flight is long haul, he may not be able to board the plane back to Leeds until the following day.
This would result in the defender having a limited amount of training time with the squad and could potentially result in him losing out on his starting spot.
Schmidt is the most likely candidate to step in for the former Barcelona man after he was brought in for a “significant” fee from FC St Gallen during the summer transfer window.
Isaac Schmidt to start for Leeds United v Burnley?
Although the Swiss youth international can play almost anywhere across the pitch, his preferred position is at left-back, with Daniel Farke finally having more depth in that area.
Although Schmidt hasn’t yet donned the Leeds kit, the defender could be one of the more exciting additions of the transfer window.
Not only should his versatility excite fans but his goalscoring prowess should also help in that regard. Before joining the Whites, Schmidt scored during his final game for St Gallen.

His versatility coupled with his speed and technical ability are all key factors behind why the 24-year-old could end up being one of Leeds’ most exciting moves of the window and, with some luck, could even help them gain Premier League promotion.
Farke has a big decision to make before Burnley come to town.
In other Leeds news, Carlton Palmer has predicted the Whites to make January additions to earn automatic promotion.
