Ipswich Town suffer ‘severe’ blow in battle against Leeds United and Leicester City

Leeds United may have been handed a boost in the title race as Kieran McKenna confirms Kieffer Moore is likely to miss multiple games for Ipswich Town.

The battle to achieve promotion from the Championship is well and truly alive with Leeds against Leicester City and Ipswich at the top.

With just six games left of the season for The Whites, the Tractor Boys sit top of the table with a point more than Daniel Farke’s side.

There now be a dent in the title chase for the top side as striker Moore is set to miss valuable games in the run-in.

As transcribed by the East Anglian Times, McKenna has revealed that the Welshman suffered an injury last time out against Southampton.

On that, he said: “It was a pretty severe back spasm. He’s not been able to play any part with the team this week. Knowing the personality that Kieffer is, he hasn’t given up on some involvement. It’s not impossible, but at the moment I would say it’s unlikely.”

He will miss key games such as the East Anglian Derby but the Ipswich boss went on to confirm it isn’t looking like a long-term issue.

Continuing, he added: “We don’t think it’s anything long-term. We’ve got two games next week and we would hope he’ll have some involvement in those.”

Can Leeds United take advantage of Moore’s Ipswich absence?

Although the striker has had a positive impact since joining on loan in January his goal output has been positive in the Championship.

So far this campaign for Ipswich he has registered six goals and one assist across just 12 games which is a good return.

Add to this the firepower of Connor Chaplin and Nathan Broadhead, there are options to come in for Moore in the coming weeks.

It must be said that Leeds have plenty of firepower of their own with Georginio Rutter, Crysencio Summerville and Dan James all in great form.

Given that the Whites haven’t lost a league game since December 2023, there is good authority to suggest they will at least keep pace with Ipswich.

If Farke’s men can maintain their great form in the run-in, there is a high likelihood they will earn promotion, benefitted by Moore being missing for McKenna and his side.
