Illan Meslier exit could pave way for James Trafford transfer at Leeds amid ‘inevitable’ update

James Trafford was previously linked with a move to Leeds United.

Relegation is on the cards for Leeds, and as a result, a lot of the focus is on Daniel Farke’s future at Elland Road.

However, plenty of eyes are also on the business that the 49ers will try to do in the January transfer window, with plenty of work needed on a recruitment front.

Concerns over Lucas Perri keep growing at Elland Road, which could force the Whites into signing another goalkeeper, with Trafford a potential option.

James Trafford exit looks nailed on at Man City

Trafford was linked with Leeds back in 2023, before making a move to Burnley and then back to Man City this summer.

However, gametime under Pep Guardiola has been limited, with a report from Manchester Evening News stating that his exit is looking “inevitable” ahead of the January transfer window.

Illan Meslier could leave Leeds in a few weeks, while Karl Darlow is out of contract at the end of the season, meaning the Whites will have to sign another goalkeeper either in January or in the summer.

With that said, Trafford‘s proposed availability should open the eyes of the 49ers early, given the fact that he would be a significant upgrade on all of their available options this season.

Leeds’ main concern is their attacking options, though improving on their goalkeeper could also be key to their survival hopes.

Lucas Perri’s stats this season are shocking

Warning signs were there from the start with Perri, and his performances have done nothing to subdue them.

Via FotMobhttps://www.fotmob.com/en-GB/players/637656/lucas-perri, the Brazilian has saved just 50 per cent of shots that he has faced this season, which places him in the bottom 7.4 per cent of goalkeepers in the Premier League.

Added to that, Perri has a -1.6 goals prevented, which showcases how easily he has been beaten on several occasions.

It’s unlikely to be a priority for Leeds to replace him this early, though his performances show that it should certainly be a thought.
