Igor Paixao signs – Which attacker Daniel Farke could axe at Leeds United

Leeds United look set to sign Igor Paixao from Feyenoord imminently.

The Whites have outbid Marseille for the winger and have been tipped to finalise a deal with him shortly.

The arrival of Paixao would add some serious firepower to the Leeds starting XI. The Brazilian hit 18 goals and contributed 14 assists for Feyenoord last season.

Paixao signing could spell the end for Wilfried Gnonto at Leeds

Wilfried Gnonto could find himself warming the substitutes’ bench more often if Paixao arrives at Leeds.

The Italian winger made 46 appearances for the Whites in the Championship last season, scoring nine goals. However, he remains unproven in the Premier League, and Farke might not feel comfortable relying on him in the top tier of English football.

Gnonto is capable of playing on either wing and could even be used as a makeshift centre-forward. That works in his favour, but he is unlikely to be a first-choice option on the left with Paixao in the squad.

Leeds boss Farke will surely have to sell some players soon

Leeds are having an absolute stormer of a transfer window so far, and there seems to be no signs of them slowing down.

Lukas Nmecha, Jaka Bijol, Sean Longstaff and Anton Stach are all likely to strengthen Farke’s first XI. The imminent arrival of Lucas Perri will be an upgrade in goal.

Now, Paixao is supposedly on his way as well? Leeds fans must be in dreamland.

Daniel Farke’s first-team squad is becoming unmanageably large, though. He will surely soon have to focus on selling players deemed surplus to requirements in the Premier League.

Gnonto will likely remain at the club, even if it is as more of a squad player.

However, the likes of Patrick Bamford, Sam Greenwood, Jack Harrison and Joe Gelhardt should all be seeking transfers away from Elland Road.

The arrival of Paixao would likely push them even further down the pecking order at Leeds. Therefore, if they’re interested in starting games next season, they’d be better off pushing for moves elsewhere.
