‘I hold my hands up, I never thought Daniel Farke would act so out-of-character at Leeds’
Daniel Farke’s formation change may be the most impactful change he’s ever made at Leeds United.
Leeds’ 4-1 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday once again proved that Premier League teams are unable to cope with either Elland Road or Farke’s new tactical weapon.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has turned into one of the best strikers in the world in the last five games, and somehow, it’s all down to Farke’s genius.
There were heavy calls for Farke to be sacked just a few weeks ago, as many thought that Leeds were going nowhere but back to the Championship with the German at the helm.
And I, for one, hold my hands up, because I never thought that Farke would act so out-of-character for the Whites.
Daniel Farke was sending Leeds down
I don’t think there’s a single person who can sit there and go ‘well, I told you so’ at this recent resurgence from Leeds and Farke.
The 49-year-old was showing the same stubbornness for Leeds that worried in the Championship, and which saw him contribute to two Premier League relegations for Norwich City.
It was going the same way for Leeds, until he had the lightbulb idea of the 3-5-2
- Leeds have scored 13 goals in their last five games
- The Whites had only scored 11 times in their 12 matches before this recent period
- Leeds are unbeaten in the Premier League when starting with a 3-5-2 under Farke
The Whites now seem more defensively compact, and have found the perfect balance to create goal-scoring opportunities at the other end.
It seems like a Christmas miracle, but in fairness to Farke, this is all on him. He deserves all the apologies to be as loud as the disrespect.
When all hope seemed to be lost, the German remained positive in his attitude towards Leeds’ survival hopes, even if it came across as patronising.

I truly thought that Farke needed to be sacked after the Aston Villa loss last month, but he’s proved me, and many others, very wrong.
Leeds now receive attraction boost for January
Leeds are going to have to tiptoe around the January transfer window due to PSR concerns, but due to the Whites’ recent form, the ability to attract better quality players may have been boosted.
Right now, Leeds has one of the best feel-good factors out there, and transfer targets would surely jump at the chance to come to LS11 in January.
That being said, many Leeds players are playing out of their skins at the moment, so any new arrivals will almost certainly have a huge task on breaking into Farke’s starting lineup.
Regardless, things only look up for the Whites, and Premier League stability may be on the cards after all.
