Germany get what they deserve for ignoring in-form Leeds United ace Robin Koch

When the Germany World Cup squad was announced by Hansi Flick, it came as a big disappointment for Leeds United defender Robin Koch who couldn’t find a place in the side.

It came as a big surprise for the Whites fans as well. The German defender has been playing incredibly well this season, and it was unfair to drop an in-form player.

However, Koch gets the last laugh, as Germany were eliminated from their group stage on Thursday [1 December]. The dose of karma has hit Flick hard like a freight train.

Koch, 26, joined Leeds from Freiburg in the summer of 2020. He badly struggled with fitness in the first two seasons at the club, managing only 38 appearances across all competitions during that time.

It has been a different story this season. He is the numero uno under Jesse Marsch and has made 14 starts in the Premier League thus far.

He has largely impressed. The defenders don’t have an easy life at Elland Road, given the side’s gung-ho approach, but Koch has been able to maintain an enviable 1.4 tackles per game, and 1.3 interceptions, as per Who scored.

Germany’s star-studded team managed only one win in the World Cup and couldn’t get out of the group phase, with Spain and Japan moving to the next round.

The Germans conceded five goals in three games, and it is their leaky defence that eventually ended their hopes of going further in this competition.

Leeds fans will be happy with the fact that Koch has got a long break, and that he will return fresh and rejuvenated after the World Cup.

In other Leeds United news, we can exclusively reveal that a takeover by the 49ers could be done within weeks.
