Frank Lampard ‘total embarrassment’ after what he did in Leeds United v Coventry

Leeds United claimed a satisfying 2-0 win over Coventry City to keep their spot at the top of the Championship table on Wednesday.

Joel Piroe and Jayden Bogle were on target as the Whites secured their 19th league win of the 2024/25 campaign on 5 February, taking a five-point lead on second-place Burnley.

There was a lot of drama surrounding the game before kick-off, with the Championship duo having a little bit of history, and recent history would have suggested quite a few goals and cards.

However, it was a rather simple victory for the league leaders, and only three yellow cards were shown by referee Dean Whitestone, but the game was still shrouded by an outrageous moment.

Frank Lampard takes centre stage in Leeds United victory

Frank Lampard is somewhat of a controversial figure at Elland Road, given his history with the Whites, and he will be even more so after his actions on Wednesday night.

The Sky Blues boss was seen making a four-finger gesture to the Elland Road faithful, referencing Derby County’s 4-2 win over Leeds in the 2019 Championship play-off final while also cupping his ears [Leeds Live].

If Coventry had claimed all three points, or even a draw away from home, then antagonising the supporters would have made complete sense.

But it was not the right time to react after losing against an in-form Leeds team, conceding two unanswered goals at Elland Road, and being kept relatively quiet throughout the 90 minutes.

He now looks like an absolute embarrassment, only making the Leeds fans laugh more.

Daniel Farke quickly moves on from Coventry City controversy

Farke was, unsurprisingly, eager to move on from the situation regarding Lampard’s relationship with the fans in his post-match press conference, and the players will be doing exactly the same.

Going five points clear at the top of the Championship table is incredibly key at this point in the season, with Leeds looking to gain automatic promotion to the Premier League.

With Joel Piroe, Dan James, Manor Solomon and Brenden Aaronson all back to their very best, it is difficult to see this team slipping up anytime soon.

The Whites did not even have their foot fully down on the pedal against Coventry, which makes the victory, and Lampard’s reaction, all the sweeter.
