Farke makes no sense with Piroe claim after Leeds United win v Cardiff City

Daniel Farke has come out with a contradictory statement on Joel Piroe following another victory for Leeds United at Cardiff City.

Leeds dominated a hapless Bluebirds side in South Wales as they emerged with a 2-0 win to return to a victorious note, moving into sixth in the Championship table.

Piroe entered the fray for just the final six minutes of the contest and almost immediately scored, now having scored twice in just 132 minutes and one league start from six games.

Following the win west of the border, Farke made the brazen claim that there is “no one better” than the Dutch forward at finishing in the division, and that “he deserves more praise” [Beren Cross, 21 September].

These are comments which are bound to puzzle Whites supporters, many of whom are crying out for more of Piroe on the field given his impactful nature so far this season.

Will Joel Piroe get frustrated with Daniel Farke at Leeds United?

Farke went on to say, rather necessarily, that Piroe “never moans about his minutes” and added that “some other skills are needed” out of last year’s £12m signing from Swansea City.

In fairness to the Elland Road boss, despite working with a squad on the smaller side, he is still fairly blessed with the versatile and fluid attacking options of Willy Gnonto, Mateo Joseph, Patrick Bamford, Largie Ramazani and Brenden Aaronson, plus the sidelined Manor Solomon and Dan James.

With the archetypal “nice problem to have”, it is also difficult to keep everyone happy – especially when every player is or has been at the calibre which on their day surpasses Championship football.

For perspective, Bamford failed to get on the pitch in a game against a poor Cardiff side which could have been the perfect chance to restore his confidence with a goal; Piroe grabbed his cameo opportunity with both hands, not for the first time this season.

Surely for the money invested into taking him from Swansea, where he was the bona fide main man, more football will come Piroe’s way soon. He is justifying it tenfold – and a knock at Farke’s door may be coming sooner than he predicts.
