Farke furious as Junior Firpo controversy emerges in Leeds loss v Blackburn

Daniel Farke was rightly furious after Tyrhys Dolan escaped a red card for a foul on Junior Firpo as Leeds United lost 1-0 to Blackburn on Saturday.

A Todd Cantwell penalty saw the Whites miss the chance to go back to the top of the Championship table at Ewood Park on 30 November and the game was not short of controversy as Farke was seen exchanging words with Lewis Travis at full-time.

The German tactician also had a go at the referee after the game [Beren Cross], with Adam Pope later reporting via X that he was unhappy Dolan was not sent off for a reckless challenge on Firpo.

The Whites have no excuse for not claiming all three points against Blackburn, but Farke has a point about Dolan deserving a red card for his foul.

Firpo required treatment after the Rovers attacker caught the Dominican Republic international on his left shin with a high studs-up challenge in the 62nd minute.

While such incidents have seen offenders punished with red cards in the past, Dolan got away with only a yellow card on this occasion.

Had the player been given his marching orders, the hosts would have to play almost 30 minutes with 10 men and one can only wonder what Leeds could have done with such an opportunity.

Instead, the Elland Road outfit now find themselves sitting three points behind Sheffield United, who beat promotion rivals Sunderland 1-0 with 10 men at Bramall Lane on Friday [29 November].

The defeat also brought an end to the Yorkshire-based club’s three-game winning run.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are facing a catastrophe as this player is mooted for an exit in the January transfer window.
