Daniel Farke can make promotion statement with Gustavo Hamer transfer at Leeds United

Daniel Farke could make a big promotion statement at Leeds United if he were to revive transfer interest in Sheffield United ace Gustavo Hamer in January.

Hamer has been phenomenal this campaign and a very strong argument can be made for him being the best player in the division and he’s a player that was potentially on the radar of the Whites this summer.

Although no move materialised, as reported in the Daily Mail (August 27), making a fresh approach would not only strengthen their own promotion hopes but significantly weaken a promotion rival in the Championship.

In an exclusive interview with Football League World (10 October), Gus Poyet, former Leeds assistant manager, alluded to the fact that Hamer could be a difference maker in their pursuit of promotion: “Gus Hamer is a top player and the more top players Leeds United can have in their squad, the better.

“The Championship is so competitive, Leeds United are pushing for promotion and with injuries in midfield, it’s important to have players in the first XI who are of the calibre of those injured to ensure Leeds United can maintain a promotion challenge.”

Leeds United need to revisit Gus Hamer deal

The difficulty, of course, lies in persuading the Blades to entertain any deal for Gus Hamer this January, but Leeds should be showing bit ambition to test the resolve of their Yorkshire rivals.

The 27-year-old has been flying since the season started with four goals and an assist for the Blades, and is a huge reason why the South Yorkshire club find themselves joint-top despite a points deduction at the start of the season.

Should Leeds be able to mould a deal together, they would instantly become league favourites, that’s how good Hamer is.

The key to a title-winning side in the Championship is strength in depth and an addition of that quality would certainly provide that and adding Hamer to a midfield that already consists of Ethan Ampadu, Joe Rothwell and Ilia Gruev would be a dream for the Whites.

Leeds fans will experience the quality of Hamer when they host Sheffield United on 18 October in what many will be hoping won’t be the only time he plays at Elland Road this season. His signing could help them win promotion.
