Facundo Buonanotte will be furious as Daniel Farke makes clear decision at Leeds

Facundo Buonanotte was left out of the Leeds United squad for the third consecutive Premier League game on Tuesday night.

Leeds were beaten 1-0 by Sunderland at Elland Road, with the Brighton loanee not even included among the substitutes.

Habib Diarra scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot, as Regis Le Bris’ side secured a surprise victory in West Yorkshire.

The result means that Daniel Farke’s side are still firmly in the Premier League relegation battle and in need of some positive results in the coming weeks.

Daniel Farke makes confusing Facundo Buonanotte decision

Buonanotte was brought in to make an impact on the Leeds team in attacking areas, but Farke has been unimpressed with the Argentine so far.

Against Sunderland, with the Whites 1-0 down and looking for an equaliser in the closing stages, Joel Piroe replaced Jayden Bogle.

Farke clearly made the move to improve his side’s attacking threat, but Piroe was used out of position, dropping deeper to try and influence play.

Unsurprisingly, the substitution didn’t pay off, and it raises the question of why Buonanotte wasn’t even included on the bench when he is far more adept at creating from deep.

The 21-year-old has been underwhelming since his arrival at Elland Road, but it is very worrying that Farke sees him as being behind Piroe in the pecking order.

Leeds could suffer from woeful transfer business

Buonanotte was Leeds’ only signing of the winter transfer window, but it has been a bad move for both club and player.

He was admittedly poor in his only start for the Whites, the FA Cup tie with Birmingham City, and Farke has seemingly made up his mind already.

The situation just highlights the lack of business Leeds completed throughout January though, and it could now come back to haunt them.

The Whites are far from clear of the relegation zone, and if they do suffer an immediate return to the Championship then their recruitment is surely to blame.
