Ex-Leeds star couldn’t be more wrong after £4m Elland Road transfer news

Carlton Palmer couldn’t be more wrong about what Leeds United should look to do in the upcoming transfer window.

Daniel Farke’s side have had a positive start to the campaign generally, they’ve scored 31 goals in the opening 18 games, the third most in the division.

Despite this output, the Whites are said to have “officially approached” Maccabi Tel Aviv for the 21-year-old ahead of a potential £4.1million transfer in January [Sport5].

This doesn’t necessarily mean a bid is coming but it does point towards a potential forward signing in the winter window despite potentially inflated fees.

If the Israeli striker were to move to Elland Road, he would force out the other number nine’s at the club which feels unfair.

Palmer gets it wrong with Joel Piroe assessment at Leeds United

The Dutchman is the top scorer in LS11 this campaign with seven goals and has easily picked up the mantle from the faltering Mateo Joseph.

Regardless of this, Palmer is still unsure of his pedigree as a striker and has urged Farke to take a punt on Turgeman in January.

Speaking to Football League World (5 December), he said: “I think it could be a good signing, this. He’s a 21-year-old and young players are the way to go.

“Joel Piroe hasn’t really been able to play that classic number-nine role, and Mateo Joseph’s growing pains as a season starter perhaps indicate that it’s worth Leeds having a look at Turgeman.

“He’s doing well and it might be worth a gamble.”

This transfer feels like a risk but not for the reasons the Leeds midfielder thinks it is.

Would it be worth potentially upsetting and halting the progress of the likes of Piroe and Joseph to sign an inexperienced striker from the Israeli Premier League?

The 21-year-old has scored 22 goals in 84 appearances across all competitions for Maccabi Tel Aviv so there’s no guarantee he is going to be a success in the Championship.

A £4m fee could be used more wisely in a deal for the likes of James McAtee who would represent a better value for money deal and a better guarantee of quality.

In other Leeds United news, the hierarchy wants to sign off on a permanent exit for this long-serving player.
