Everything Alan Shearer said about Brighton vs Leeds on Match of the Day – it is a joke

Leeds United crashed to a 3-0 defeat at Brighton on Saturday after a dreadful performance at the AMEX Stadium.

An early Danny Welbeck goal was followed by two second-half strikes from Diego Gomez to leave Leeds with another defeat on the road.

Ethan Ampadu could have been sent off late in the game, and Leeds were never competitive in a match that represented a decent opportunity to get more points on the board.

Daniel Farke is under pressure to get Leeds firing, and the clash against the Seagulls was yet another worrying display away from home.

Alan Shearer lauds praise on Brighton’s Danny Welbeck

Welbeck appeared unplayable at times on Saturday, and the 34-year-old showcased exactly why he is in the conversation for England’s World Cup squad.

Speaking on Match of the Day on 1 October, Alan Shearer and Ashley Williams only spoke about Welbeck‘s impressive form when analysing the match.

Shearer said: “The manager has probably said to him (Welbeck), ‘you stay between the 18-yard box, you’ll get your goals, there’s no doubt about it.’

“He absolutely deserves to be in that England squad, and there’s no doubt he’s getting better.

“Thomas Tuchel’s not bothered about the future, he’s bothered about the six weeks in North America.”

Williams added: “He just seems to be getting better with age. You don’t need to have a squad full of stars, and he’d be a brilliant person to have around the camp.

Leeds were outclassed by Brighton, and the gulf in quality between the two sides, which were only separated by three places at the start of the day, is worrying for Farke.

The Peacocks have failed to score in four of their five matches on the road this season, and they never threatened to bring the game to Brighton until it was too late.

Despite already being five points clear of the relegation zone, Leeds are fighting to stay in the Premier League, and away matches must become more competitive if they are to have a chance.

Regardless of Welbeck’s performance, it’s outrageous that Leeds weren’t mentioned once in the whole segment of analysis done by Shearer and Williams.

Coverage of Brighton vs Leeds is laughable

With the game at 3 pm, the match wasn’t available to watch in the United Kingdom, so Match of the Day provided the perfect opportunity for it to be analysed.

It’s beyond a disgrace that when analysing the Brighton defeat, the word ‘Leeds’ was not mentioned a single time by Shearer or Williams.

Instead, two minutes were spent talking about one player before they swiftly moved on to the next match, which has been the case for weeks now.

With Brighton against Leeds sixth in the running order, supporters wasted over an hour watching the show just to see their side not even talked about in the end.

Fans were likely ready to get insight from the pundits about Leeds’ performance, and it’s bitterly disappointing that nothing was said about the Peacocks.

Just like Leeds, Match of the Day is quickly going downhill.
