Emi Buendia could help get Daniel Farke sacked after failed Leeds United transfer
Leeds United are in the market for a new attacking midfielder in January, although Emi Buendia could have answered all of their prayers during the summer.
Leeds were linked with Buendia throughout the transfer window after it seemed he was no longer a part of Unai Emery’s plans at Aston Villa.
The Argentine playmaker wanted a chance to play regular first-team football, with Villa placing a £20million asking price on Buendia.
But as the 28-year-old suffered with several injuries and failed to impress in a spell at Bayer Leverkusen, Leeds only wanted to sign Buendia on loan.
Of course, Farke will now regret not reuniting with his former Norwich City star ahead of this weekend’s showdown against Aston Villa.

Emi Buendia can punish Leeds United
It’s been a difficult few years for Buendia since suffering a knee ligament injury in August 2023, which kept him sidelined for the entire 2023/24 campaign.
But after almost leaving Villa Park in the summer, supporters will be pleased he didn’t, as the classy playmaker has six goal involvements in 13 appearances this term.
Cutting in from the left flank and hurting the opposition with his elite-level dribbling, Buendia was on target last time out as Villa thrashed Bournemouth 4-0.
On Sunday (November 23), Emery’s No.10 will see the Leeds United clash as an opportunity to prove why not buying him was a mistake.
Leeds have struggled to score goals since returning to the top-flight, with only Wolves netting fewer than their total of 10, and Buendia could have helped resolve that problem.
Leeds have a horrid fixture run
A strong performance from Buendia could push his former manager closer to the exit door this weekend, even if Paraag Marathe has faith in Farke.
Leeds upcoming fixtures
- Aston Villa (H) – November 23
- Man City (A) – November 29
- Chelsea (H) – December 3
- Liverpool (H) – December 6
- Brentford (A) – December 14
- Crystal Palace (H) – December 20
Worryingly, after losing four of their last five matches, the fixtures don’t get any easier for Leeds, who play the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool.
Farke’s woeful Premier League record is making supporters worried about their prospects of staying up, feeling their best chance is by sacking the German.
So, it will be interesting to see how losing to Aston Villa on Sunday impacts the board’s stance on his future.
