Dominic Calvert-Lewin reveal will give Daniel Farke hope of Leeds heroics vs Sunderland

Leeds welcome Sunderland to Elland Road on Tuesday night in a crucial Premier League meeting.

Daniel Farke‘s side come into the game winless in their last three Premier League outings, but having only narrowly lost to Man City at Elland Road 1-0 on Saturday.

Sitting just six points above the relegation zone, Leeds aren’t totally out of the woods yet, but are perhaps a couple more wins away from securing their top flight status.

Their next opponents, Sunderland, are pretty much safe in 12th and with 37 points on the board, and with the Black Cats having lost three of their last four league games, Leeds must pounce.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin loves playing against Sunderland

Most of Leeds’ goalscoring hopes against Sunderland – as they have been over the course of the campaign so far – will largely rest on the shoulders of Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The 28-year-old is enjoying a resurgent season in West Yorkshire, and is undoubtedly one of the signings of the Premier League season after being snapped up on a free following his Everton exit.

10 goals in 25 league games this term has seen him re-establish himself as a talented marksman at this level, and has also put himself back in the England frame ahead of the World Cup.

However, with just one goal in his last six Premier League games, the big centre-forward has been enduring a frustrating few weeks in front of goal.

But, Leeds’ number nine does seem to love playing against Sunderland, as in his two career appearances against the Black Cats, he’s scored three times.

Two of those came in the League Cup, whilst the other was in the 1-1 draw at the Stadium of Light earlier this season, in what was one of the team goals of the year.

What is Leeds’ recent head to head record vs Sunderland?

It looks set to be a great game of football on Tuesday night, between two newly-promoted sides who have both enjoyed impressive debut seasons back in the Premier League.

Sunderland aren’t going to make it easy for Farke’s men, as they know that they’re just three points away from that magic 40 number, which is seen as the benchmark for Premier League survival.

However, the recent chapters of this fixture tell us that it’s likely going to be a very close game at Elland Road, with three of the last four league meetings ending in draws.

Out of those last four games, the team that has managed to record the lone win was indeed Leeds, when they claimed a 2-1 victory in the Championship on 17 February last year, thanks to a Pascal Struijk double.
