Dominic Calvert-Lewin has done something phenomenal at Leeds United as incredible stats revealed

In a relegation six-pointer against Brentford, Leeds United had Dominic Calvert-Lewin to thank for salvaging a draw.

Calvert-Lewin powered his header past Caoimhin Kelleher in the second half as Leeds drew 1-1 against Brentford on Sunday.

The 28-year-old has hit a red-hot streak in front of goal, and it’s been a while since anyone has witnessed his true scoring powers.

When Leeds signed Calvert-Lewin in the summer following his release from Everton, they were warned about his lack of clinical edge in front of goal, but his improvement at Elland Road has been immense.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has found a ruthless edge at Leeds

In his last four matches for the Whites, the Englishman has scored his four goals from an xG of just 2.95, according to Sofascore.

That is the level of ruthlessness Calvert-Lewin hasn’t display for years, perhaps even since he scored 16 Premier League goals for Everton in the 2020/21 campaign.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s total xG / goals season by season
2025/26 – 5.03 xG / 5 goals
2024/25 – 6.75 xG / 3 goals
2023/24 – 12.93 xG / 7 goals
2022/23 – 5.84 xG / 2 goals

The above table demonstrates how much his finishing has improved since moving to West Yorkshire. Indeed, he’s only underperforming his xG by 0.03 this term, and that is a huge difference compared to 5.93 in the 2023/24 campaign.

Calvert-Lewin has been tipped for an England call-up by multiple pundits, including former Arsenal winger Theo Walcott, and there’s no surprise.

Leeds need Calvert-Lewin to continue incredible form

A return of five points from their last four games isn’t groundbreaking, but considering three of those matches were against Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool, Daniel Farke will be pleased.

Of course, the German has his in-form strike to thank for collecting most of those points, and he will need him to continue firing from all cylinders.

It was a perfect Willy Gnonto cross on Sunday that found Calvert-Lewin’s head, and it appears the change to a 3-5-2 system has benefitted him more than anyone else.

Farke already called Calvert-Lewin one of the Premier League’s best before they visited Brentford. Though if he wants to reach even higher levels, consistency with his finishing across the season is key.
