Daniel James will be new winter signing as Leeds United transfer priority to change

Daniel Farke expects Daniel James to return to team training in a couple of weeks after his injury at Leeds United.

The German manager has achieved some impressive results without the Wales international, who has been out of action since the end of November.

Farke got the better of Ruben Amorim in the Premier League on 4 January, with the Portuguese manager subsequently getting the sack at Manchester United.

49ers Enterprises have financial issues to address at Elland Road, with the books needing to be balanced to comply with Profitability and Sustainability Rules, and the German manager may change his priorities in January.

Leeds United to focus on new defender transfer in January

Farke has prioritised adding a striker at Leeds, with a defender also on their agenda.

The German manager seems keen on bolstering the forward line at Elland Road, but James’ return may change that.

Ahead of the Newcastle United clash on 7 January, the 49-year-old head coach admitted that the 28-year-old winger could potentially be back in action soon.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference on 5 January, Farke said, “At the moment, he’s around two weeks from team training. We expect him in two weeks at least back in team training, then we’ll see how quickly he’s available for the games.”

James could potentially be the winter signing at the West Yorkshire outfit after hardly playing this season due to multiple fitness issues.

The Welshman has made 10 appearances in the Premier League, featuring for just 352 minutes in the current campaign, and the German manager will surely be eager to have him back soon.

Elland Road faithful shouldn’t be surprised by winter window prospect

Joe Rodon’s absence has been a big blow for Farke, but the centre-back is back training individually alongside Jayden Bogle.

While the German manager has eyes on attacking and defensive additions at Leeds, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them have a quiet window.

Fans in LS11 shouldn’t be shocked if the West Yorkshire outfit don’t sign anyone in the coming weeks, with key players returning from injury.

Given the Whites’ position in the league table, Paraag Marathe and the 49ers may feel it’s best to wait until the summer to strengthen the squad.
