Daniel Farke opens door for Artem Dovbyk transfer after Leeds United decision
Artem Dovbyk to Leeds United is a transfer that would make a lot of sense.
With the January transfer window having been open for five days, Leeds have already been linked with several players across various positions.
Roma’s Dovbyk has been mooted as a target for the Whites, as they look for someone to reduce the pressure on Dominic Calvert-Lewin to score the goals.
Given the form of the Englishman, the links seemed fairly innocuous – why would Leeds need another striker?
However, a decision made by Daniel Farke in recent weeks has opened the door to that transfer, and it would make sense.
Leeds have found their new identity under Daniel Farke
Off the back of the 1-1 draw with Man United that got Ruben Amorim sacked, Leeds are now unbeaten in their last seven Premier League encounters.
The Whites have utilised a back five in all seven of those games, which was a decision made by Farke off the back of increasing sack rumours.
However, that change also saw Leeds adopt a style of play that utilised two strikers.
Neither Lukas Nmecha nor Noah Okafor have proven their worth in the current system, while Joel Piroe has hardly been afforded an opportunity, and the arrival of another Calvert-Lewin-esque striker could take this side to a whole new level.
Dovbyk, who has been linked with Leeds, possesses plenty of physicality, like Calvert-Lewin, and also has a reputation for being in the right place at the right time.
It remains to be seen if Leeds push further with the interest, but it would certainly benefit them if they do.
What is the latest on Artem Dovbyk’s move to Leeds?
At this stage, Leeds have only been reported to have an interest in Dovbyk, who is looking increasingly likely to depart Roma this month.
According to Tutto Mercato, a loan move is looking likely, with England labelled as the most reasonable destination for the striker.
Sunderland also hold an interest as they look to rectify some of their own attacking concerns, which have seen them score just 21 goals in 20 games this season.
Aside from the two promotion-winners, West Ham and Everton have also been mooted with an interest, with the next few days likely to paint a clearer picture.
