Daniel Farke on brink of Leeds sack, Paraag Marathe’s No 1 target to avoid relegation

Leeds United look set to part ways with Daniel Farke.

Off the back of Leeds United’s 2-1 defeat at home to Aston Villa on Sunday, the pressure is piling more and more on Farke.

According to a report from TEAMtalk, the Leeds boss is at “serious risk of being sacked“, though the 49ers have not lost full faith in the German yet.

However, the report also states that the Whites have identified his potential successor, and if it were to come to fruition, Leeds would immediately move one step closer to survival.

Brendan Rodgers named as Paraag Marathe’s target manager

Brendan Rodgers is a free agent since leaving Celtic earlier this season, and it is claimed that he is at the top of the list of potential managers to replace Farke if he were to be sacked by Paraag Marathe.

If Leeds fall to defeat against Man City this weekend, which almost seems like a given at this stage, there is a high chance that the 49ers could pull the trigger on Farke.

Given the struggles he has showcased recently at Celtic, Rodgers’ name may not spark the most excitement at Elland Road, though his record as a Premier League manager certainly should.

The 52-year-old has managed 312 games in the top flight of English football, with 139 wins throughout that period.

While many of those were with Liverpool, a lot were also at Leicester City, which is a fair place to judge his managerial ability.

In the full three seasons he had with the Foxes, he only dropped below an average of 1.5 points per game on one occasion, with an average throughout his tenure there of 1.58.

If that were to be replicated at Leeds from now until the end of the season, it would see the Whites finish on 52 points, which would be more than enough to secure Premier League survival.

Brendan Rodgers knows what it will take for Leeds

Rodgers achieved promotion with Swansea, and it was a very similar situation to that which Leeds currently face.

The Whites are almost always the perceived underdogs, and are often made out as though they are only here to make up the numbers in the Premier League.

However, Rodgers dealt with those challenges at Swansea before joining Liverpool, and a lot of his inspiration came from Marcelo Bielsa.

Back in 2020, he said: “I took Swansea up, and I know the challenges you have being a newly promoted team. When we got promoted, it was deemed we were just a team coming up, and it wasn’t until after teams realised the level of our game.

“I love Marcelo Bielsa from way back. I started coaching in the 1990s, and when I was looking into coaching, different managers and different styles, he was on my radar when he was with Argentina.

“He came into Europe with Athletic Bilbao. You saw the unique style he has in terms of man-marking and the intensity with which his teams play.”

Given Rodgers’ knowledge and experience of the Premier League, and his record within it, he is a perfect candidate to take over from Farke.
