Daniel Farke must act instantly as Leeds United can finally sign Gus Hamer for bargain price
PSR is a problem Leeds United are facing in their pursuit of January additions, but signing Gus Hamer wouldn’t be an issue.
Hamer is a long-term Leeds target and someone they’ve been linked with across the past few transfer windows.
Daniel Farke targeted the Brazil-born playmaker as a possible number 10 signing ahead of their return to the Premier League, but Sheffield United were able to hold onto their prized asset.
Leeds once saw a £13million bid rejected for Hamer in August 2024, during a time when the Blades were holding out for a key closer to £20m, and now his price tag has dropped dramatically.
Leeds can sign Gus Hamer for just £6m
Hamer was a standout player for Chris Wilder in 2024/25 when Sheffield United were beaten in the Championship play-off final by Sunderland.
The 28-year-old produced a respectable 10 goals and eight assists in all competitions, making him a sought-after commodity for teams in the Premier League.
But despite significant interest from the top-flight and abroad, Blades fans were delighted when their midfield maestro remained at Bramall Lane.
Indeed, Hamer was expected to spearhead another charge towards promotion, but instead, Wilder’s men are loitering in 16th position.
Worryingly, with Sheffield United nine points behind the top six, Hamer’s form has also suffered, with just two goals and three assists in 18 Championship appearances.

The midfielder’s asking price has also dropped as a result, with Ben Jacobs reporting that only a fee £6m could be enough to sell him.
Trabzonspor, Sevilla and Cremonese are all keen on United’s No.8, and for that price, surely Leeds should consider weighing up a move.
What Leeds would get in Hamer
Hamer’s form has crumbled during a time when United have struggled, but he’s still arguably one of the best attacking midfielders in the Championship, and the statistics prove it.
Gus Hamer’s 2025/26 Championship per 90 stats
0.16 non-penalty goals
2.65 shots
0.23 assists
5.15 shot-creating actions
7.95 progressive passes
1.56 progressive carries
When comparing his statistics to other midfielders in the second tier, Hamer ranks in the top one per cent for shot-creating actions and top two per cent for progressive passes, evincing his creative qualities.
The former Dutch under-20 international is great at picking up space between the lines and playing through balls, something Leeds have arguably lacked this term.
Question marks remain over whether he’s Premier League quality, though, but for just £6m, he’s surely worth the risk.
