Daniel Farke miles off it as quotes emerge about Leeds fan expectations, he has to go

Daniel Farke is only putting more pressure on himself as the pressure of the sack looms at Leeds United.

Farke is coming under increased scrutiny at Leeds after what has been a very mixed start to the Premier League season at Elland Road.

The German wasn’t helped when Leeds fell to a 3-1 defeat away to Nottingham Forest despite taking the lead early on at the City Ground.

Leeds are now preparing to face Aston Villa, with the future of Farke hanging in the balance, amid an increasingly difficult fixture list.

The 49-year-old hasn’t helped himself, and the pressure surrounding his job has increased after making bizarre comments about Leeds fans.

Daniel Farke unimpressed by expectations from Leeds fans

Farke is already linked heavily to the sack in West Yorkshire, especially after the 49ers contemplated moving him on over the summer.

Fans vouched for the ex-Norwich man and demanded that he be handed an opportunity to lead the Whites into the top flight.

It seems as if that loyalty doesn’t mean anything to the manager after he expressed his belief that the supporters have unrealistic expectations.

Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports Germany, Farke effectively criticised the Elland Road faithful for their expectations and reactionary attitude.

He said: “The club has an incredible history in England, having won the English championship and played in the European Cup. However, the truth is that in the last 25 years, we’ve only spent three seasons in the Premier League.

We’re not currently an established Premier League team. But, similar to traditional clubs in Germany, the expectation is that if we’re playing in the Premier League, we need to win a title and play in Europe. Of course, that has nothing to do with reality.

We have to strike that balance, especially in this environment. Here, after every loss, it’s like the world is ending.

At Championship level, after every away draw, it was: you have to change everything, change the manager and bring in new players. And everything is bad, and we get relegated all the way down to the fourth division. That’s just how this club is.”

Farke gets it totally wrong after slamming Leeds United supporters

You would seriously struggle to find a Leeds fan who had any expectation of getting promoted before qualifying for Europe the next season.

The recent record of new sides in the Premier League has been poor, with each of the last nine promoted teams going straight back down.

This set the hope that avoiding relegation would make for a positive season at Elland Road, regardless of how it was achieved.

So, Farke’s suggestion that supporters want European football or a trophy is completely bizarre.

Fans are reactionary, that is the nature of football.

Farke should be used to that, but may not be given the chance to deal with it again should he be sacked in the coming weeks.

These comments on top of a run of poor results could prove to be the end of the road for the German.
