Daniel Farke may have to rethink Max Wober stance at Leeds United after impressive Austria display

Leeds United have one of the best teams in the Championship this season. The West Yorkshire outfit had added a plethora of talent to their ranks and look to be on course to gain promotion.

The Whites narrowly missed out on Premier League promotion last term after they lost in the playoff final against Southampton.

There’s no doubt that Leeds would have rather been promoted at the first time of asking but now they find themselves in the second tier for another season, they have time to bolster their ranks further.

Many players including Max Wober have also returned from season-long loans last term and will be looking to help the Whites gain Premier League promotion.

Wober has been left out of Daniel Farke’s squad since the season started and while he’s been nursing an injury he sustained in pre-season, it’s hard to see how and when Farke will include the Austrian into his starting XI.

After his recent performance for Austria against Kosovo, however, it almost feels like the German needs to re-jig his team to try and fit the former RB Salzburg star into his first-team fold.

Max Wober deserves a chance in the Leeds United first-team

Of all the players who returned to Leeds after a season on loan, Wober is arguably the one who has received the most hate from fans.

Upon his return to action for the Whites, the defender was booed and jeered by supporters as many expected the defender to exit the club during the transfer window.

Borussia Monchengladbach were keen on making a move for the 26-year-old but an agreement couldn’t be reached in terms of a fee [Rheinische Post, 29 July].

Since those talks broke down, Wober has reiterated his desire to stay [Sky Sports Austria, 4 September] and fight for promotion with the West Yorkshire outfit.

Many fans may not think the defender is any better than the likes of Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk but after he was lauded by Austrian media for his performance against Kosovo, their heads could be turned.

There’s still plenty of time left in the season for Wober to make his mark but the sooner Farke entrusts the defence the better so that each player knows where they stand in terms of the starting XI.
