Daniel Farke may be forced to take Mateo Joseph action after what arose away from Leeds United

Daniel Farke may be forced to drop Mateo Joseph for Leeds United after the poor performance he put in for Spain’s Under-21s on Friday.

The attacker was hooked off the pitch in the 63rd minute of the clash after he failed to break the 0-0 stalemate against England Under-21s on 15 November.

He was the focal point of his country’s attack but once against failed to live up to expectations and prove his worth.

In the 63 minutes he was on the pitch, the attacker only managed 28 touches of the ball, missed one big chance and successfully completed just 25 per cent of his dribbles throughout the match (Sofascore).

Joseph started Leeds’ most recent game, the win over QPR last weekend, but after his performance on the international stage, it will surely be a case of Joel Piroe getting the nod against Swansea City.

Mateo Joseph needs to find his pre-season form for Leeds United

Joseph was one of Leeds’ best players in pre-season, with those around the camp all hailing him for his contributions.

This form is what got him his starting role for the team in the first place, with Farke likely expecting the Spaniard to pick up where he left off.

And, for the most part, he put in a fairly decent shift as he contributed to four goals in just six games.

Recently, however, things haven’t gone quite to plan, with the attacker now five games without a contribution and just one in his last nine games.

This sort of form is way off the mark and, of course, he’s still young so there’s plenty of time for him to rectify himself.

But at the moment, it doesn’t feel like he has a chance to pip Piroe to the starting number nine role consistently.

Only time will tell what Farke chooses to do but unless Joseph picks his form up, it’s hard to see how he’d be able to justify starting the 21-year-old week in, week out.
