Daniel Farke has nightmare Leeds United contract scenario, latest headache emerges

Daniel Farke may soon be hit with a sobering reality after the high of Leeds United beating Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Friday.

Sean Dyche’s team travelled to Elland Road on 6 February and were convincingly beaten 3-1 by the Whites.

Jayden Bogle and Gabriel Gudmundsson were impressive, with the German manager getting the better of the former Everton and Burnley boss tactically.

Farke had some standout performers on the pitch, and, in the long term, he will hope to keep them at the West Yorkshire outfit despite their contracts expiring soon.

Leeds United must open Ilia Gruev contract talks after Nottingham Forest display

Ilia Gruev was the man of the match for Leeds against Forest after pulling the strings in the middle of the park.

The Bulgaria international bagged two assists at Elland Road in a dominant display alongside Ethan Ampadu.

As things stand, Gruev’s current contract expires in the summer of 2027, and Farke has surely been handed the latest headache in terms of handing out new deals.

Similarly, Ampadu will also enter the final year of his contract at the West Yorkshire outfit at the end of the season, with Pascal Struijk another key player in a similar boat, which is certainly a nightmare for the German manager.

Brenden Aaronson is another player the Whites won’t want to have in the final months of his deal, after the American’s resurgence in the eyes of supporters.

Joel Piroe’s contract also expires in 2027, but it would be surprising to see the centre-forward remain at the Peacocks beyond the current campaign after falling down the pecking order.

Elland Road summer priority evident after free agent reveal

49ers Enterprises could sign a new quality goalkeeper for Farke in the summer, with the American owners recognising the frailties in the position.

Lucas Perri was signed last summer from Olympique Lyon, but the Brazilian shot-stopper has failed to address the problem at Leeds in between the sticks.

Leeds’players’ contracts expiring in June 2026

Karl Darlow has made mistakes in recent matches as well, and the Wales international’s current contract expires at the end of the season, along with Alex Cairns.

Another player who’s set to become a free agent in June is Illan Meslier, and it doesn’t look like the German manager fancies him, making goalkeeping additions an evident priority for the West Yorkshire outfit in the summer.
